The Original UpRight V-X Stairway Scaffold Set in production since 1947.
In 1946 Wallace Johnson needed to paint his two-story house. Not being able to find a reasonable cost effective way of getting the job done he sat down at the kitchen table with some coat hanger, wire cutters, and wire nose pliers and begin to explore possibilities. With an engineering education from the California Institute of Technology (C.I.T.), and an idea he sat at his kitchen table with a few coat hangers and some simple tools. It wasn’t long before he had a simple model of what he needed. He took his idea and his model to a friend who owned an aluminum fabrication shop. It was exactly what he imagined, safer than ladders, easier to move than steel and practical. It was a great idea and it worked so well he decided to start the first company manufacturing folding aluminum scaffold. It does seem quite logical, if painting a house with a ladder wasn’t such a good idea, then using his aluminum scaffold was doing it “Up-Right”.
